STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS
Just as with the human body, all of a building's support systems work
together with the connective, insulation and protective covering systems to
create an efficient structure. Our catalog's wide range of structural designs
allows the flexibility to match any exterior or interior requirements; each
structural component is designed to function synergistically as part of an
efficient system.
The rapid growth in use of steel building systems is due in large part to
their economic value and flexibility. Prefabricated building systems are
designed to allow rapid erection, with fewer requirements for expensive heavy
equipment, so construction costs can be kept low. Large foundations or
spandrels, like those found with prestressed concrete walls, are not needed,
thus eliminating needless waste of materials and expenditures. And
steel-sheeted, metal buildings are virtually maintenance free.
Because WedgCor, Inc.'s structural systems are designed with flexibility
in mind, buildings can be expanded easily and cost-effectively. Changing
requirements for access doors can also be accommodated at later times. Frame
designs can be chosen to allow huge, column free interiors or maximum clearance
at side wall locations.
Your WedgCor® building system is designed and
engineer-certified to meet your requested dead loads, live loads, wind, and
seismic stresses. Their built-in elasticity helps resist damage or destruction
from unexpected natural disturbances, such as earthquakes, excessively high
winds or heavy snowfalls.

As a direct result of WedgCor, Inc.'s advanced technology in design and
manufacture, your new building is also very cost-efficient. Multi-spans with
interior supports for wide buildings can save up to 47% on frame weights versus
clearspan structures, and are able to support structural configurations such as
space-making mezzanines to help maximize land usage. High tensile strength,
tapered-beam columns and rigid frames minimize wasted steel for savings of up to
30% compared to conventional frames.
WedgCor, Inc. uses built-up I-beams or C-sections for its structural
support system, rather than bulkier conventional hot-rolled sections. This
innovation, a result of extensive engineering studies, allows design engineers
to put more steel where the most structural stress is applied. This provides
significant savings in steel costs and avoids the waste of valuable materials.
Every WedgCor® building and each of its parts is designed in
conformance with the "Manual of Steel Construction" of the American Institute of
Steel Construction. Cold-formed members are designed to conform with AISI's
"Specifications for the Design of Cold-formed Steel Structural Members."
Interior main-frames in your building system are fabricated with
certified, tensile-strength steel for greater infrangibility and more efficient
use of materials.

Roofing panels are also formed with materials of high tensile strength,
specifically ordered for WedgCor, Inc. Using stronger materials, the rigidity of
your panel facilitates easier handling during installation and is more resistant
to dimpling that can be caused by severe hail storms.

Our roof sheeting also incorporates a unique anti-capillary flute, or
"siphon groove" which helps prevent roof leakage through siphoning. As added
protection, a sealant is provided for all roof panels.
Known for their outstanding performance in thermal expansion and
contraction, standing seam roofs, are probably the best roofing systems
available today. WedgCor, Inc. offers two types of standing seam roofs, the
original mechanical seamed roof or an easier, more advanced self-sealing system
which is self-caulked and carries a 20-year "Galvalume" coating limited
warranty.
